Oklahomans prepare for terrorism

Take the same steps they're already taking for other hazards.

The threat of terriorism does not have to change your life; just be prepared. The best way to be prepared is by taking the steps used to prepare for other hazards like severe weather and hazardous materials releases.

If evacuation might be required
  • Confine pets to one room so they can be found quickly if the evacuation order is given.
  • Contact relatives or friends outside of the threatened area to make arrangements for your family to stay temporarily.
  • If that threat is due to fire or flammable fumes in the area, shut off all sources of flame and do not smoke or strike matches.

Plan Ahead
Because terrorist groups usually strike without warning and utilize a number of different means to accomplish their goals, you can prepare by being cautious and using common sense when you are in public places.

  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings. Notice unusual or suspicious activity or packages.
  • Take orecautions when traveling. Do not accept packages from strangers or leave luggage unattended.
  • Know where emergency exits and staircases are located. Think ahead how to evacuate the building or public area you are in quickly.
